Yamaha AEX-502 strings
(too old to reply)

After 40 years of playing, I bought my first electric guitar a few months
ago and I can't put it down.

My Martin DM4 has been just sitting there.

I like to get some new strings for this Yamaha but I'd like to get a heavier
guage as I'm so used to playing the acoustic and most of the time, just
don't have that gentle touch that the electric needs. (I always finger
pick).

On some of the strings, they just sound plain out of tune, the strings look
very old but I was thinking it may be a technique problem as well and a
heavier guage would maybe help.

Could anyone suggest a guage to buy and a brand they like? (I have no
experience with electric strings).......especially someone who is familiar
with this semi-hollow Yamaha guitar?

Thanks.

Isn't the AEX500 a different animal?

I thought it was the acoustic/electric or even a classical model?

I use Dean Markley nickel electric strings; String gauge: 0.10 ~ 0.52.

Yes, he was talking about the wrong guitar.

I've owned an AEX-502 for a while:

I went ahead and got some D'addario xl 115 for it.

My first electric and I'm having a blast with it....nice to see the positive
comments.

I think for a long time acoustic player, it's a good transition...the neck
is wide and I never liked the feel of a solid body.

Hello Michael,

the Yamaha AEX 500 + the AEX-502 have the same neck
and the same Body.

But the electric is different:
AEX-500 = neck mini Humbucker and Bridge Piezzo;
I use this Guitar for Rock-A-Billy & Blues & Jazz,
also for electric-acoustic Picking with the Piezzo.
