Discussion:
Signed Les Paul Worth More?

Today Les Paul is going to be at my job. I have a purple custom color
Les Paul that I paid $1,200 some 12 years ago. If Les Paul signed
this guitar, how much more would be be worth? Of course I would have
to have photos of him signing it to prove it's his signature. And
what kind of pen should I use? To bad I won't be able to ask him,
since it's at work.

It probably is....but you should get it signed for yourself if you're
interested or don't waste his time. Personally I would want mine
signed regardless of what it does to the price.

Why? Did Les Paul actually make your guitar? I mean, sure, if he actually
touched it while it was being crafted...otherwise, what's the difference
between that a pair of Air Jordan's?

Personally, I wouldn't let anyone sign my guitar. You really want an
autograph, there's paper for that.
Tell you what, ask him to play on yours for a while, make a little video of
that.

I met Jim Marshall twice. He signed my Amp. I am quite happy about that.

hehe, and Cindy Crawford sitting on your amp without a slip makes
it sound sexier in the future ? ;-)

I would have him sign the pickguard and have that laminated or coated with
something to keep it from wearing off. Then get another pickguard to keep on
the guitar for when you play. That way if you ever wanted to sell it you
could just sell it with the unsigned pickguard and keep the signed one. If
he signed directly on the guitar it might actually detract from the value if
sold to the "general market" who may not know or care who Les Paul is.

...and if I met Jordan I'd just as quick let him sign my Air Jordan
sneakers.

Try and find one he hasn't signed. Can't stop the bugger. Oh but wait, yours
is unsigned. I suggest leave it that way. You already did him a favour by
paying for the thing.
