Hello,

I am beginner.
From a stop to the luthier I learned that my Behringer guitar has a
bow neck. Firstly I wanted to exchange for a new one but I think I
will go for another brand. It will be returned in 1-2 days.

In a beginner perspective what do you think of ***Drive Guitars
Wildfire Extreme 2***. It looks nice and review on Web seems nice.
Only problems is tone buttons cheap. It got awesome sustain based on
users review.

I have to color to choose from. Mine will be Atomic Red.

So what you think?

some of the best bang for the buck guitars coming out today
are from malden guitars. They are made in Korea from the Cort factory
but the level of workmanship has been extraordinary.
great reviews from nearly every source.

if you go to adirondack guitars in New York
http://www.adirondackguitar.com

you'll see some malden guitars there.
if you can afford it - this model is an absolute steal:
http://www.adirondackguitar.com/electrics/malden/bad_karma.htm

You prolly won't find better guitars for the price and
you'd prolly have to pay a ton more to get the same quality.

And no - I don't work for Cort or Malden.
Just giving a heads up on some excellent import guitars.

Maldens look great, from what I've seen. But the original poster was
looking for a beginner's guitar. I don't think a $630 axe is a good
idea at this point. He had a Behringer and he's looking at a Drive, so
obviously he's shopping in the $100 - $200 range.

There are a lot of decent guitars in this price range. I've been
impressed with two different Squier 51's that I've picked up in
stores. They have nice necks, good fretwork and a useful pickup
layout. Best of all, you can get one on sale from Musician's Friend
for $99.

There are also great deals from Rondomusic.com and Musicyo.com.

true. the bad karma from malden is $630.
but their "strat" type guitar is only $199
and it feels/plays like a guitar costing hundreds more.

Joe,

I have no brands to recommend but I do have some advice. Take an
experienced guitarist with you when you shop. You can avoid buying guitars
with poor fret work and bowed necks by having someone knowledgeable advise
you.
I'm sure Atomic Red is a wonderful color but I don't buy guitars for
their color. You need a guitar that stays in tune, is well intonated, and
well set up. At your price range you can get that by looking. You'll also
get a cheap solid state amp, and a gig bag

So what you think?
I've never seen any drive products anywhere but on pawnshop shelves..
and I've never seen one of their guitars, period.
That doesn't mean they are bad.. but it's a possible indicator.

I thought the fender squier 51 was an excellent suggestion for you..
MF has them for 99.00.. I've owned one, and it was pretty damned
sweet.. played very nicely, good sounds. well made.

and pretty easy to upgrade later on.. lots of parts available.

I don't know anything about the Maiden guitars.

I only found the drive wildfire, and extreme 3 guitars ..
the basic wildfire has a strange bridge.. so it wont be
upgradeable..other than that they look ok.
MF has a good return policy.. only costs you shipping, but both ways,
I think.. kind of expensive gamble.

Nothing wrong with red!

the 51 will have one humbuck and one single coil..
the drive I think.. has two humbucks.

I have some kit guitars I've got built and unbuilt.. I think you'd be
more interested in a finished peice.
But right now all I have done is a funky tele I had a bit of fun
with... though a good guitar, it doesn't seem like what you're looking
for.

but, I also have a basswood body.. jackson dinky shape.. twin humbuck,
floyd rose licensed tremolo, locking nut, black, with black hardware
and a hardshell case..binding on body and neck, too.

150.00.
money happily refunded if not satisfied.. and that included the
shipping you paid to get it.
IOW if you hated it.. you'd only be stuck for shipping it back.
It plays fast.. the pickups are sweet.. the trem works nicely..

Since I've owned the squeir 51, and have had many low end guitars
personally and in my shop.. I can recommend this easily.

I've got two.. the other one is the same but with skull inlays on the
board.
These are both discontinued.. (lawsuit threatened..) guitars that went
a bit too far in copying a major brand.

I sold one to a friend of my sons a few months ago.. and he's had no
problems at all.
I've sold another to a local guy about two months ago.. also no
complaints at all.

pics available.

the floyd is hard for a beginner.. nice to be able to do those dive
bombs and come back in tune.... but difficult to get used to setting
up.. you have to follow the floyd rose set up procedures. But it's ok
once you get on to it.
everyone complains a bit about floyds.... but the end value is pretty
good.

I was pretty surprised about the pickups... balanced, good power.. at
least as good as the squiers humbucker.

For strictly low price.. I think that 51 squier is hard to beat..
for a little more money.. and no trem.. epiphone special II is hard to
beat..
very solid little guitars. easy set up.. good tones. nice fretwork...

Okay thanks for all these answers. I know Squier 51 is good. I read it
often.

For the Drive Wildfire X2, I found it:
http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar/product/Drive/Wildfire+X2/10/1

And no, I do not choose guitar based on their color. I read good
reviews and made a choice between 2 colors after. I liked the red one.
This is why I let you know here! ;-)

I made the purchase at www.americanmusical.com, the place I bought the
behringer with bad neck.

I will give you feedback about the Drive guitar.

But why you seems to worry about two humbukers. Is it bad?

Joe.

nothing wrong with twin humbucks.

I notice a lot of reviews say.. you'll want to replace pickups and
controls... hardware is not very good..
but that's pretty much true of any lower end guitar.. you usually do
become disatisfied with the pickups.

see how it goes. probably will work out fine.

I'd like you to look at: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guitar/product/reviews/base_pid=513458/rpp=10/

The reviews seems incredible there. Do you think MusiciansFriends (and
other Web site like that) filter reviews or not? ;-)

yeah. i agree the Squier 51 is cool and inexpensive and
with a little setup and fret work is nice. Same goes for
the Standard Squier Strat (with 22 frets). Very nice and priced right
although once again it needs a nice setup and a little fretwork (get rid
of any sharpies sticking out.. polish the rough tops etc and maybe
a few leveled).

I just mentioned the malden guitars because few people even realize
they exist. Just something different here for the regulars to check out.
The Maldens just like the Fenders made in korea are all contracted out
to the Cort company (which also brand some of their own Cort guitars
as being "Cort"). Cort will make a guitar as good as the specs you give them.
The Maldens set high specs and the Cort company delivers.
Fender sets a little lower spec and the Cort company delivers there too.
Anyways - in general - the mother of all guitars coming out of Korea
is the Cort company - no matter what's on the headstock.
Even Ibanez contracts Cort out for the Ibanez made in korea guitars.

ok - just thought I would mention this.
maybe people will see that Cort MIK ain't so bad after all.

Hi Squier!
And again these Switch... made by which company? Do you know.
I found some good review on it. So I take a chance here. Example,
frets work is good. That is on reviews.
